What will Google Wave look like and will it combine all of our interactive needs into one screen? How would the experience be different from our current Blackboard or other LMS experience? Some of these commonly used products like Seesmic offer us a glimpse of what parts of it may look like. Or not. Perhaps for Seesmic, the time has already past.
Below is Howard Rheingold and a few others thoughts about our online identities.

This is like someone 30 years ago asking if the computer will improve education, conversation, and/or interaction. I mean, in regards to education, I never typed a paper on a typewriter, but I’m pretty sure it’s easier to type it in Word then email it to the instructor and then get feedback in a reply-email.
With the above example, what I’m trying to say is that the world of education, conversation, and interaction is changing. So in regards to education, online discussions will eventually look exactly like YouTube, Seesmic and/or other video social networks. These social networks are leading us into our new world.
So for an online course, video discussions will eventually erase blackboard discussions that are in text form. Text form will still be used, but not for the main part of an online course’s class participation section.
I mean, let’s face it! I can learn the same information from an hour video than from a book that would take me days to read. Do I miss out on something valuable by doing this? Yes? My time!
So in other words, video-discussion will be the future.
Just my opion!!!
I agree with Charlie. the world of education, conversation, and interaction is changing. Online discussions should be what we be attaining - both for education and business. Social networks will lead the way in education, business, and everyday events.
I believe video 'conversations' will replace text-based discussion boards. Text will only be used for annotations, directions, or comments. Talk about class participation - how great!
I listen to podcasts in my car now - remember the 'books on tape' that we all thought were so "new"? Well, this is just another change to what we all consider normal in a very short amount of time. Think of the time we will save - and the social aspect we all want to have.
